🌿 Hi! We are Cristiano and Marie
We live in Delfim Moreira, Minas Gerais, and work with small hotels in the beautiful Serra da Mantiqueira.
We manage three different places where we rent rooms to guests. Volunteers stay and work in two of them:
🏡
Our home, located in Rosário, in the countryside, 7 km from the city center, surrounded by mountains. This is where volunteers stay most of the time. Here we also have animals and a vegetable garden.
🏨
Our hotel in the city center of Delfim Moreira. 📍 15 minutes by car 📍 10 minutes on foot from the main supermarket This is the second place where volunteers may stay during the exchange. Delfim Moreira is a quiet, small, and safe town.
🌲
A wooden house in the middle of the forest, 24 km from Delfim Moreira, which we visit only from time to time. Volunteers do not stay there.
It is very common for volunteers to stay and work in both locations, which we see as a positive and enriching experience: one place is more isolated and close to nature, the other is urban but calm and peaceful.
We decide together where you will stay and for how long, depending on the current situation. We are regularly present in both locations
⚠️ Independence & Trust
Volunteers will often spend time without us being physically present. Cristiano and I move frequently between the 3 places (where we are developing a new project). Marie also works online.
For this reason, it is essential that volunteers are independent, reliable, and trustworthy, and comfortable managing their tasks responsibly and autonomously, without constant supervision.
❗ IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING
The main mission of our volunteers is to keep our spaces clean, organized, and always ready to welcome guests. This is by far the most important part of the work.
🧹 Daily tasks mainly include:
* Cleaning guest rooms and common areas
* Keeping kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces clean and well organized
* Laundry management: washing, drying, folding, and putting sheets, towels, and linens back in their correct storage places
* Preparing clean bedding for guests
* Gardening and basic outdoor maintenance
* Watering the house plants
* Watering the vegetable garden and taking care of weeds
* Feeding and taking care of the animals (dogs, chickens, horses, etc.)
⏰ HOURS OF WORK EXPECTED
* Volunteers are expected to contribute 4 to 5 hours of work per day
* There are no fixed daily schedules, and some flexibility is possible in how the hours are organized
* However, the full 4 to 5 hours must be completed each day
* Volunteers are entitled to two days off per week

If you are not comfortable with cleaning, making nice beds, and organizing spaces, this experience may not be the right match.

We are a small, independent business in a non-touristic town, and running this project requires a lot of effort. We hope to welcome volunteers who truly want to help during their stay, who put heart and care into their work hours, and who wish to contribute to Oca’s growth and well-being.

You will get to know the country side of Minas Gerais and the life-style people have around here. Delfim Moreira is a small and traditional city from Brazil. Our town is really safe, so you don't have to worry about security.
The place is super peaceful, a good way for you to disconnect and take the time for introspection surrounded by nature. The landscapes are beautiful, you can go for walk and visit some waterfalls :)

SLEEP :
The volunteers are staying in a shared room, usually we welcome from one to four volunteers, depending of the demands and our needs.
FOOD :
If you want to cook your own meals we have an in-door and out-door kitchen for you to use.
Feel free to ask about all the details regarding food accommodation.
What else ...
To help you make the most of your free time, we have created a small PDF guide with ideas of things to do in Delfim Moreira, including nature spots, walks, and places to eat.
We also work professionally with tours and travel experiences in the region and offer different activities to our guests (nature tours, local experiences, transport, etc.).
Volunteers are welcome to participate in or request these tours, and we offer a 30% discount on all our services.
In addition, we regularly go to Paraty, where we are developing a new project.
There, we also have places to stay, organized tours, and transport options, which are available to volunteers under the same 30% discount conditions.
You can go to the biggest peak of the state of São Paulo: Pico dos Marins. (camping or visit for the day)
If you are coming from Paraty or planning to go there, please let us know — we regularly travel between Paraty and Delfim Moreira and may be able to help with transport, depending on timing and availability.
ACCESS TO DELFIM MOREIRA :
Every day buses leave from São Paulo (260km) and Rio de Janeiro (290km) to Itajubá, the largest city next.
From São Paulo to Aparecida, from Aparecida to Delfim (company Pássaro Marron)
From Rio de Janeiro to Itajubá (company Cometa)
You need to tell the driver that you are going to stop in Delfim Moreira.
From Belo Horizonte 476km, (every day: company Expresso Gardenia)
From Campinas 292km, (every day: company Expresso Gardenia)
From Brasília 1184 km, (not every day: company Gontijo)
These three options you need to take a bus from Itajubá to Delfim Moreira.

Cristiano welcomed us very well and made his best to make us know the different places and people around.
