    Description

Hey there, we are JonJon and Hanna :)

JonJon is a Filipino, born and raised, but a traveller at heart. He has lived in many places all over the Philippines but about 14 years ago, he made the beautiful island of Malapascua his base. Since then, he’s created many projects and ideas here to help build community like Medical Missions, Feeding Programs for children, eco projects etc. and he found his calling 🤗.

In July 2023, I (Hanna) came to Malapascua for a few days of scuba diving, but when I met JonJon on my first day, everything changed 😅.
Within my first week we started a Clean-up project focusing on education, awareness and of course, direct action and Clean-ups. It is a combination of picking up the already existing trash on the island and building systems to reduce waste in the future 🌱.

To create a space for like-minded people and our volunteers for the project, we started building bamboo huts behind JonJons Vegan/vegetarian restaurant, which then turned into a full-grown eco accommodation. 🛖.
Fortunately enough, we’ve had a wonderful journey so far and met so many wonderful travelers who loved and contributed to our space.
In March 2025 we also opened a vegan native Restaurant and Café, where we serve native filipino dishes - but vegan.
And now, our newest "baby" is a place in the North of the island. We were kindly given the amazing opportunity to take care of a property in the North, away from the noise, overlooking beaches, surrounding islands and a lush green garden.
We already started building a little Café by the beach but also want to turn the house on the hill of the property into an accommodation.
That's why we’re looking for motivated, skilled people who want to help us with painting, building, tidying and as always, help to clean our beautiful island 🏝️.

PS: YOGA TEACHER wanted - longterm stay 🤗🧘🏽‍♂️.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Filipino culture (tribal culture) is something very close to our hearts, which is why we make education and awareness around it part of our accommodations’ concept. All our huts are named after tribes in the Philippines and have some decorations from them ☺️.

Aside from that, Malapascua is a very multi-cultural island with travellers coming from all over the world 🌏. All the resorts and restaurants are within the village of locals, so you are automatically part of the day-to-day local culture. And all of our staff are Filipino and speak the local language Bisaya (and some also speak Tagalog, the official language of the Philippines) 🇵🇭.

On Saturdays we have a Feeding Programm for the children of the island, where we teach them music, art, singing, Yoga, Mediation and sustainability. At the end we have some food and juice for them too ☺️. You are more than welcome to join us for that while you’re here. It's such a pleasure to spend time with them and see them grow.

I should also mention that JonJon is an Artist, Musician, DJ and Fire-Dancer and has many like-minded artistic friends around. We often have Jam sessions, fire dance or Bonfires and we are more than happy to teach you different instruments, arts and crafts like drums, making dreamcatchers, jewelry or even Poi, Ecstatic Dance and Fire dancing 💃🏻🔥🎭🪘. And you are also more than welcome to play, sing and perform with us - if you already have some skills in that.

    🎨 Painting and renovation

We’ve recently been given the amazing opportunity to take over a property in the north of Malapascua island. A big house on the hill overlooking a big garden, two beaches and our neighbouring islands. It’s honestly a dream!
Alongside with opening a Café down by the beach, we want to renovate the house a bit and turn it into an accommodation. For that we need some help painting walls, up-cycling furniture, cleaning etc.
So we’re looking for 2-3 people to help us with that.

We can offer you to stay in the house while you work on the projects - there are beds, some furniture, bathroom and a kitchen already 😉 It just needs some love, paint and decor.
The rooms have either a sunrise or sunset view – and again, the location is amazing! We are also opening our Café by the beach downside of the house so there are options here as well for drinks, food and great hippie-vibes 🤗

We need help as soon as possible so this option is only open from NOW until maybe start of February.
    First come, first serve 😝

🧘🏽‍♂️ Yoga Teacher - longterm stay
After our dear friend and favorite Yoga teacher and friend Jyoti has moved islands, we are looking for someone to continue her classes.

🏝️ If you’ve been dreaming of staying on an island and teaching Yoga right by the beach, or overlooking a lush green garden with wildflowers and surrounding islands, this opportunity is for you! 🌺☀️
We can offer you 3 different locations to teach: two right by the beach and our Bamboo Shala inside our accommodation.

We give you freedom to decide when and where you want to teach, if you would like to host fixed scheduled classes or arrange classes with people as you go. All we know is, there is a demand for Yoga, the locations are beautiful and you would be enjoying island life while expanding your skills and teaching hours 🧘🏽‍♂️.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

For our current project in the North, we would ideally offer you to stay in the house you'd be helping to renovate. No one lives there so you have plenty of space to spread out ;)
The house has 2 bedrooms upstairs with big balconies (one facing the sunrise, one the sunset). They have beds and a bit of furniture. There are 2 big bathrooms in the house, a living room and a kitchen you can use.

For 3hrs of work a day you get free accommodation and for 4hrs we also include free lunch or free rice.
If you stay a whole week, work is 5 days a week, so you get 2 days off.

For the Yoga offer: we would probably host you at our accommodation in one of our bamboo huts. There you have a private space with toilet and shower. It also has a big kitchen that you can cook with free water drinking water and a place to store your food. Sometimes we also have dinners or lunch together (with our guests) and fun evening hangouts. We are like family at our accommodation so we hope you feel right at home with us 🤗.

Just 5mins walk from the accomodation is our Vegan Restaurant & Café with many local food options and drinks that are super affordable.
And for our North location: we are currently soft opening the Café by the beach with Food & drink options (all vegetarian) and nice hippie-vibes. All of our places are really nice vibes, with good people, a community mindset and nice memories to be made ☺️

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Malapascua is a beautiful island with a super chill and cozy vibe. There are plenty of bars to have a drink, hang out with like-minded people but also spent some quiet time by the beach.
It’s especially popular amongst divers because it’s one of the best (and few) places in the world, where you can dive with Thresher Sharks. But there are many beautiful dive sites around too - so if you are a diver, you will LOVE this island for sure! And if not, you could either consider getting your license here (it’s truly such a magical place for diving) or just go swimming and snorkelling with plenty baby sharks 5mins walk from the restaurant :)
There are also many beaches all over the island - if you prefer a bit of life, stay in the South or go to the North for some quiet time.
Malapsacua might be small, but people have been known to extend their stay for weeks, months or even years because it’s just such a nice place to live 🤗

    How to get here?
Malapascua is located in the north of Cebu island about 3-5h from Cebu City, depending on your style of transport. It's super easy to get to Malapascua from Cebu City by car, motorcycle, Minivan or public bus (from North Bus terminal) and then a short boat ride (from Maya port). And if you need any help, just tell us where you're coming from and we can help you get here 😉

Digital Nomads are always welcome :) In fact, I am one myself and have been working online here for many months. Both the restaurant and our accommodation have wifi. That being said, the speed comes and goes a bit (noone on this island understands) and we do have some power-outs (brown outs) on the island every now and then... Also: our new place is the North doesn't have Wifi (yet!). For now, there is a place 5 mins walk with Starlink and there are also spots to catch Mobile Data.

    Can possibly accept pets

There are many dogs on the island, so most people here are already very used to animals and pets being around. We also have a puppy "Datu", a cat "Diwata" and there usually at least 2-4 more dogs and cats on our property. The family keeps expanding :D
